The Zoning Board of Appeals was organized to regulate the use of the property in the Village of Sauk Village. A zoning ordinance
was adopted to promote and protect the public health, safety, comfort, convenience and general welfare of the people of Sauk
Village. In addition this ordinance has the following specific purposes:
1. Health, safety and welfare- to provide for protection against fire, explosion, noxious fumes; to reduce or avoid
hazards to persons and damage to property resulting from the accumulation of runoff, storm, or flood water; to insure adequate
light, air, and open space in areas where people live and work; and to provide convenient and adequate access to property.
2. Value, Character, and Aesthetics of Property - to regulate the use of property located in or adjacent to the Village
of Sauk Village in such a manner as to conserve and enhance its value, to assist property owners and residents in maintaining
the value of their property and to regulate the use of land and buildings so as to prevent blight and slums; and to encourage
the aesthetic use of land and buildings.
3. Orderly Development and Use - to provide for the orderly and functional management of land uses and buildings;
to promote rational patterns of land and use relationships between residential and non-residential areas and to establish
minimum standard for the development and use of property.
4. Density and Public Services - to avoid undue concentration of population and relieve congestion.
